Pre-Mardi Gras Kickoff
Party Set For Eureka Springs
(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – A party tradition born in “the city that care forgot” renews itself in the town known as “The Extraordinary Escape” starting January 6 at 3 p.m. The “King’s Day Party” at the Rowdy Beaver Tavern, 417 W. Hwy. 62 in Eureka Springs, precedes the town’s Mardi Gras celebration by 25 days.  “It’s like a small starter party for those who can’t wait another few weeks for the big six-day blowout,” according to Eureka Gras Mardi Gras organizer Dan Ellis.
The King’s Day Party features the Royal Court (outgoing and incoming Kings and Queens) and is sponsored by the “Krewe of Krazo,” an Ellis creation. “You can decorate an umbrella on the spot – and do the strut to Second Line New Orleans Jazz music,” the Katrina transplant added. Light snacks and a chance to get “your own slice of King cake” will be offered as well.
Attendees will also hear details of events planned for each of the six days of Eureka Gras Mardi Gras 2008. This year’s festivities include the Coronation Gala on Jan. 31, a Masquerade Ball Feb 1, the Eureka Gras Mardi Gras Parade and Costume Contests on Feb. 2, the Jazz Brunch Feb. 3, the newly added Waiters Race Feb. 4, and the Mardi Gras Day Krazo Second Line Pub Krawl set for Tuesday, Feb. 5.
